Mission and Philosophy
The mission of Code Compliance is to encourage voluntary compliance and avoid punitive actions, also known as citations. A helping hand approach is more successful than the punitive approach as citizens may not be aware that their actions are in violation of City Ordinances.
Some situations may require immediate action or citation to achieve the ultimate goal of compliance. This is usually at the discretion of our certified Code Enforcement Officers.
Goals
Our goals are to eliminate blight, improve the appearance of business and residential areas, and create a community where all those who live, work, or visit can experience a sense of pride and well-being. While our goals may sound simple, your partnership and participation is needed to make them a reality.
Responsibilities
Code Compliance is responsible for enforcing codes which address health and safety issues. This includes regulations related to trash and debris, high grass and weeds, restrictions of view, zoning, and inoperable vehicles on private property.
Enforcement is proactive and in response to requests by residents. These services help to improve and stabilize neighborhoods, protect property values, and promote a healthier and safer environment.
